Former Arctic Monkey launches record label

DEFDISCO, a new sync and brand focused label and music publishing company founded by former Choo Choo Records owner Barry Gilbey is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Card Gang Music.

Card Gang is a collective of musicians based out of Sheffield and led by former Arctic Monkeys bassist Andy Nicholson and Jamie Shield whose production credits include recent work with George the Poet, LTJ Bukem collaborator MC D.R.S and grime artist Coco, amongst others.

Andy Nicholson commented “In today’s world of trust fund kids pretending to be A&R at major labels, it’s sometimes difficult to see how you would fit into these organizations, and if you’d actually want to. Creating our own label seemed the obvious choice when looking at all our options. Card Gang was conceived as a brand that would encapsulate our talents and skill sets whether we were working singularly or together under our Clubs & Spades or Sticky Blood monikers. We are sure we will have other aliases depending on the music we create, so having Card Gang Music as an umbrella over our various projects made the most sense.”

He continued “By teaming up with DEFDISCO, we’re able to use their infrastructure to release our records, as well as their sync teams to get the music more profile.”

Barry Gilbey, added “The entire DEFDISCO team is very excited to be working with Card Gang. They have such an amazing roster and pool of genuine talent. We believe the strategic partnership between the two companies will deliver something truly unique for the UK Music Industry.”

The first release will be Sticky Blood’s I.D. EP released on August 14th. The style of I.D. is a showcase of the producers’ versatility. Lead track Professional is an atmospheric trap cut showcasing the vocals of upcoming singer Hekky, another Card Gang protégé. Sticky Blood are following up the EP with a Red Bull Studio Session and more production work, this time with Ghostpoet who is on the cards next.
